Welcome to the German International School Toronto!
“Education is about the whole child”
WELCOME TO GIST
Welcome to the German International School Toronto, where we believe education is about the whole child. While academic excellence is crucial, we also believe shaping a kind heart is just as important. In today’s fast-changing world, the ability to think critically, be culturally aware, and lead with empathy and respect are essential skills for success. That is why the GIST combines academic rigor with a high-quality character education.
Our kindergarten program is designed to foster creativity and exploration through play, providing a fully bilingual environment with phonics programs in English and German. This innovative pre-school concept, the “Eingangsstufe” (Entry Level Program), helps children develop in a supportive and joyful learning environment led by native-speaking experts in early childhood education.
At our school, we follow a state-of-the-art curriculum that blends the accelerated and competency-based German curriculum with the highly respected Ontario Curriculum. This results in an outstanding multi-lingual education in German, English, and French. Our students are confident language-users who write poems in French and participate in Canadian writing contests.
However, we know that academic excellence alone is not enough. That’s why we have a balanced and challenging character education program, our “CHARAKTER” program, which prepares our students for lasting success in all areas of life.
We are proud of the results of third-party inspections and standardized tests, both Canadian and German, which provide strong evidence of the school’s overall quality. We hold the prestigious Seal of Excellence, awarded by the Federal President of Germany.
We invite you to visit us for a tour and see firsthand how your child can benefit from our multi-lingual setting, our accelerated and competency-based curriculum, and our unique approach to character education. We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant school community.
