Welcome to our website! We are delighted by your interest in our school and kindergarten.

Location

The German International School Toronto is one of the eight German international schools in North America, part of the network including New York, Washington, Boston, Silicon Valley, Portland, Brooklyn, and Montreal. It was founded in 1999, and its educational operations began in the year 2000. The school’s new location is in Islington and is situated within the Islington United Church, which has been a local presence for over 200 years. Islington Village, also known as Etobicoke Centre, is an attractive residential area with its own unique economic characteristics.

Everything Under One Roof

The school encompasses kindergarten, primary school, and secondary level I. In two years, we plan to offer an upper-level qualification for our students – the GIB, German International Baccalaureate. As a recognized German international school with the “Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule” quality seal, we follow German curricula while also incorporating the Ontario local educational system’s curricula. Having all departments under one roof allows us to collaborate closely across departments and shape our students’ individual educational journeys over many years.

Cultural Encounters and Languages at GIST

The primary language of instruction at GIST is German for most subjects. However, our classes have an international makeup – German and Canadian students make up the majority, alongside Swiss, Austrian, Japanese, and students from a total of 13 nations who attend GIST, fostering daily cultural exchange. We consider it our duty to offer the best possible support for diverse learning needs, enabling successful education and age-appropriate personal development. We aim for our students to become trilingual and offer a broad range of educational opportunities, with a special focus on STEM subjects (MINT).

Full-Day School

GIST operates as a full-day school. From kindergarten to grade 10, continuous care is available until 5:30 pm. After compulsory classes, children have various exciting and age-appropriate options to spend their free time, either in free play or through numerous extracurricular activities.

I hope that our website provides you with an informative initial “virtual” glimpse into our school life and community. If you’d like to learn more about our school, please feel free to get in touch – we look forward to hearing from you!

Yours sincerely
