The EQAO is an assessment tool used by schools in Ontario to provide objective, reliable information on student skills in three major areas: reading, writing, and mathematics. These skills are aligned with the English curriculum for grades 3 and 6. At the end of the school year, students in these grades take a test.
At GIST, our EQAO classes reinforce skills and content developed in English lessons, giving students opportunities for additional practice and development of these in a different setting.
All students in grades 3 and 6 take part, and the weekly lessons are an opportunity for students to take their learning to a new level and further practice their English. Content is aligned with their regular English curriculum, giving students an opportunity to develop greater depth in their learning.
EQAO at GIST gives students additional teaching time in English, which strengthens their language and cognitive skills.
